Scenic Drives and Places to See

Hill Country Scenic Drives

Take a day trip to see the scenic Hill Country and view the tree-studded limestone hills to the claim of “Texas’ friendliest people”.  The clear running streams only add to the charm of the historic towns.  In the month of April see the famous Blue Bonnets and other wildflowers.  Day touring can be done in several days, but it’s best to absorb them at a slow pace.

A Cave Without a Name

Impressive limestone formations and caves surround the Hill Country, however, there is a special cave, “A Cave Without a Name”.  Some say the most beautiful in Texas, but definitely too breathtaking to be named.  The cave is easily accessible and it is a comfortable 66 degree climate to visit year round for the entire family.

Bat Cave

Home to thousands of Mexican free trailed bats.  View their nightly exodus June through October, just 15 miles outside of Comfort.

Enchanted Rock

A Texas State Park with over 1600 acres on Big Sandy Creek.  The rock is a huge, pink granite exfoliation dome that rises 425 feet above ground.  Enjoy primitive backpacking, camping, climbing or even a simple picnic.

Vineyards

Texas wineries in the Hill Country are as beautiful to see, experience as they are to taste!  Texas Hill Country is home to these locations:  Sister Creek Vineyards, Comfort Cellars, Becker’s, Dry Comal Creek, and many more.  All specializing in varieties of Cabernets, blush, Chardonnays, Ports, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir and many other varieties.  These vineyards are a brilliant experience to see the Hill Country at its best.  Vineyard tour maps are available in our General Store.

Guadalupe State Park

The clear-flowing water of the Guadalupe River, with banks lined by huge bald cypress trees, is the 1939 acre park’s most outstanding natural feature.  On its winding path through a segment of the Texas Hill Country, the river is noted for its ruggedness and scenic beauty as it courses over four natural rapids and two steep limestone bluffs which reflect its awesome erosive power.

Pedernales Falls State Park

This 5211.7 acre park, located east of Johnson City, is located along the banks of scenic Pedernales River. This area, formerly the Circle Bar Ranch, typifies the Edwards Plateau terrain.
